Andy Louie

bio

Andy Louie is a multimedia artist from Portland, Oregon. His creative process electronically patches together glitchy synth grooves, iPad sketches of cats with long abdomens, garage band Chinese drums, and painterly maps of neighborhoods which are simultaneously synthesizers. In Andy’s paintings, figures, cars, swingsets, and cats are embedded in buttons and knobs, wired together under a horizontal strip of sky, where friendly suns and evenly spaced clouds watch over the musical melody below.

Andy has been a central collaborator in Videotones since its inception in 2018. He is one-half of the Jandyband, a musical duo that uses chance-based systems, open ended prompts, and improvisation to make jumpy, chaotic grooves and ultrasyncopated bursts of rhythm. The Jandyband’s first album, Wavy Process, was released by Cityland Tapes in 2024.
